About TJ Kent

His approach to training is built on decades of experience, international knowledge, and a deep passion for the sport and horses

Meet the Trainer

TJ Kent is a rising trainer based at Red House Stables on Hamilton Road in Newmarket, where he works closely with his dedicated team. Since launching his training career in 2020, he has quickly built a reputation for his hands-on approach and keen attention to detail. These qualities have been instrumental in his success, with multiple winners developed at Grade 1 tracks.

TJ began his career as an apprentice to the late Michael Jarvis, whom he considers his greatest mentor. He also had a successful stint as a jump jockey, riding for the late Julie Cecil. Over the next decade, he worked at some of the UK’s leading stables, including David Loder and Godolphin, gaining international experience in Australia, Dubai, and France. Most recently, he served as assistant trainer to Roger Varian before taking out his own trainer’s licence in 2020.

Success is a team effort

TJ’s success is very much a team effort, with his two sons playing key roles—Lewis Kent as Assistant Trainer and Ryan Kent as Racing Manager and Bloodstock Agent. Together, they have been instrumental in sourcing and developing many of their own horses, including Graphite, Zenzic, Prosperitas, Ataser, Drifts Away, and Obsidian Knight. These horses have gone on to achieve notable victories in prestigious events such as the Shergar Cup, Racing League, and Winter Millions.

Each year, TJ places strong emphasis on raising the standard of horses in his care. The quality and results seen in 2024 are a testament to that commitment, helping to elevate both the profile and performance of the yard.

2024: A Breakthrough Year

TJ Kent Racing enjoyed their most successful year to date in the 2024 season. Highlights included Habooba’s impressive victory at Wolverhampton in the Racing League, where she secured a memorable first-place finish. Graphite, a savvy acquisition, continued to perform consistently, while Obsidian Knight and Prosperitas also contributed to the yard’s growing roster of top-class performers.

The momentum has carried into 2025, with the team building on their success and achieving an exceptional six-race winning streak. This run further strengthens TJ’s reputation as one of the most promising trainers emerging in British racing.
